How many of us complain about pores? Summer is here which means it is a MUST for Pore Care! As the weather gets hotter, pores are bigger as they are widened and loosened 😨

WHAT ARE PORES?

Pores are connected to our hair follicles and are small openings in the skin that release oils and sweat. They are the tiny dots you see on the surface on your skin.

Pores are very important for healthy functioning of the skin as it allows the skin to breathe and helps the body get rid of toxins which is super important for clear skin!

Fun Fact: The normal person has about 5 million pores on their body and 20,000 of them are on our faces! 🤯

WHAT CAUSES CLOGGED PORES?

Clogged pores are the result of dead skin cells getting trapped in your skin. When pores are clogged, they are widen and loosen. Therefore, pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, acne and breakouts are formed.

Here are the common causes:

  1. Build-up dead skin cells and trapped dirt and grime.

  2. Sweat and excess oil and sebum.

  3. Not having a good skin care regimen.

  4. Wearing makeup on a daily basis and leaving old-makeup residue on your face.

WHY ARE MY PORES BIGGER AND YOURS ARE SMALLER?

You may be comparing your pores to someone else's. But generally speaking, it comes down to skin types and how well you take care of your skin.

People with more Oily Skin will generate more sebum in the pore which will look more enlarged. This means properly cleaning your face is important.

People with more Dry Skin already do not produce as much sebum to begin with; which is why the hair follicle or pore size is already smaller. This means they work harder in restoring all the oils on their face and importantly not to strip the skin when cleaning.

People with Combination Skin you will find for the most part the pores on your t-zone will be enlarged compared to the rest of your face.

HOW CAN I GET CLEAN AND TIGHTEN PORES?

TIP 1: Double cleansing

Double cleansing a two-step method that is at the heart of Korean skincare routine. This is the most effective way to remove makeup, gently exfoliate and remove any excess oil and dirt from the day. First, use an oil-based cleanser (such as The Chok Chok Green Tea Sherbet Cleanser) which helps breaks down any makeup and helps soften the oils that are trapped in the pore. Next, follow up with any water-based/foam cleanser to ensure your skin is squeaky clean!

*Remember to cleanse your face twice a day; in the morning and night. In the morning, use a more gentle cleanser.

TIP 2: Exfoliate 2-3 times a week

Exfoliating is key when it comes to unclogging your pores and removing excess oil from the skin’s surface.

TIP 3: Face steaming

When your skin is exposed to hot temperatures, your pores expand. Face steaming is simply using hot steam and opening your pores so it will loosen the debris that is filling in the pore, such as dirt, oil, whiteheads and blackheads.

Grab a face towel and wet with hot water and put it over the area where you want to extract OR Drape a towel over your head and the pot and steam your face for 5-10 minutes.
